During the month of December, we had many stair runner transformations! If you’re new here, each month we share a little background information about three projects – the location of where it took place, and if there is a reason behind why a specific material was selected. The idea is to provide the story of “before” the stair runner and then showcase the “after” photographs with the runner installed.
We’ve chosen three of December’s top stair runner transformations to share with readers. Let us know what you think about them!
In with the New, Out with the Old (Quincy, MA)
For this project, the homeowner worked with local interior designer Kristen of Kristen Wright Designs. The homeowner wanted a new runner installed in their cape home tucked away in Quincy. Below is a photo of their straight staircase.
Kristen likes to use products from our roll special program. If you’re unfamiliar with our program, it is a curated list of carpet styles we have available in our workroom. These styles are some of our most popular that are hand selected by our team, designers and customers.
The material selected for this straight set of stairs is called “Arlen” in the color Dune. It does come in several color ways. This product is 100% polypropylene herringbone carpet, making it a great option for homes with high traffic, kids and pets!
Kristen wanted this runner to be the center of attention when anyone walked into the home. With that in mind, she added a navy blue binding to contrast with the carpet. The finished look gave the home a very nautical feel.
Larry also wanted to show off his runner that he loves!

Modern Farmhouse (Needham, MA)
This modern farmhouse is not only beautiful, but in need of a stair runner. That is why the homeowner came to us for their custom project! Their visit to the showroom went great as they selected one of our favorite roll specials that paired with their needs perfectly. The style they selected is called “Elegance” in the color Mineral Gray. The carpet is a 100% flat-woven wool herringbone style that is offered in two-toned gray color way. Not only is this style a great fit as a stair runner, but it can be fabricated into an area rug or even for a wall-to-wall project.
Not only was the runner installed on the stairs, but the homeowner continued it into the second floor hallway to help reduce noise on that level of the home.
We added “Elegance” to our roll special program, because we wanted a herringbone option that was a little darker, for the customers who were worried about light colored carpet. The other great thing about this roll is that it comes in 16’4” width. That is one of the widest length carpet is offered, which helps with projects where the carpet might need a seam. If you’re looking for a wider width and want to avoid a seam, this style would be ideal!

Home for the Holidays (Needham, MA)
This last project was local to our Needham showroom, so our marketing department went out to visit the home after the runner was installed. The staircase was a wide, straight set of stairs with a second floor hallway that we knew was going to look awesome even before the carpet was installed. The homeowner visited the showroom and selected a soft, dark blue plaid from Milliken. They fell in love with this style since they thought it looked best with their existing home decor. With kids running around, it was dark enough to hide any dirt that may get into the home and is soft underfoot. Milliken is known for their fun colors and patterns, while also being 100% nylon cut pile carpets that are great for all various types of projects.
Check out the before and after photos! This carpet really makes the home more inviting and comfortable. Let us know what you think.
