June Stair Runner Transfomations

The summer season has been a busy one for us here at The Carpet Workroom. Each project has been unique and fascinating, and it’s exciting to share what we’ve been up to as we kick off the summer!

If you’re new here, each month we share a little background information about three projects — including the location of where it took place and if there is a reason behind why a specific material was selected. The idea is to provide the story of “before” the stair runner and then showcase the “after” photographs with the runner installed.

We’ve selected three of June’s top stair runner transformations to share with our readers. Let us know what you think about them!

Waterfront Home (Dartmouth, MA)

Sarah Maurer of Sandbar and Co. is an interior designer located in Dartmouth, MA. We had the pleasure to work with Sarah on several of her projects, mainly stair runners. She  reached out to us as part of a major renovation project with a client who bought a beautiful home right on the water. This project kicked off in March and was finished just in time for the Fourth of July!

Sarah and her client chose a beautiful beige checkered carpet style made by Prestige Mills. A wilton wool product, it looks absolutely stunning in the home with its unique 30-foot-long hallway.  While the project included stair runners — one of our specialties here at The Carpet Workroom — the hallway runner was the most eye-catching part, as it did need *a lot* material! Check out the photos, which feature the refinished hardwood floors, fresh pain and, of course, the beautiful checkered runners installed before the client moved in!

Stripes for the Cape (Harwichport, MA)

We were excited to work with a returning customer on our second featured project!  For this project, they actually swapped stars for stripes! This customer wanted a new stair runner for their in-laws’ home, which was  recently renovated. They needed a runner that was bold, nautical and unique for this space! After scrolling through our Instagram, they came across an old post from back in 2018. We drafted a quote and sent over a sample, which was an immediate winner.

The new runner featured a beautiful white and blue wilton wool product made by Langhorne. We kept the edge finish minimal to match the navy blue and make the stripes the focus point. See the before and after photos and let us know what you think!

Unique Staircase (Sherborn, MA)

This next project was one of our favorites this month for a couple of reasons. Our project manager worked with Whitney Talsma of Oliver James Interiors LLC on this unique staircase project. The carpet material of choice was a wilton wool herringbone and stripe combination that is neutral, classic and subtle. Whitney decided to pair the carpet with a beautiful, rich, brown, wide cotton binding that complements other features in the home. This staircase is absolutely stunning, but also very unique from your traditional staircases. Every step is a different shape and, as a result, we had to template each individual step with paper.  Our team and the designer are incredibly happy with the exquisite final product and we hope this transformation inspires others to inquire into a stair runner project with us!
