Everything You Need to Know About Indoor/Outdoor Carpet

Spring and summer are here and what better way to give a kick start to your outdoor or indoor space than by sprucing up your home with carpet! Did you know that you can install indoor/outdoor carpet on stairs? Many of the projects we fabricate use indoor/outdoor styles, which we love! We will share some examples of some of our recent work later on in this blog.

Rugs can bring a space together to make it look cohesive, including in outdoor areas! If you’re decorating your patio, deck or another outdoor hangout, an indoor-outdoor rug is a low-maintenance decor option that makes the area feel more at home. If you did not know, you can also add indoor/outdoor carpet to your stairs. Homeowners should select a polypropylene option if they have pets in the home or if the space tends to get a lot of traffic from the outdoors.

The photos below show a newly renovated basement that is designer, Candace of House of Paige who had a custom area rug made for her space. She ended up choosing Arlen in Dune as a durable option for this soon to be high traffic space!

What is Polypropylene?

Indoor/outdoor rugs are typically made from synthetic materials like polypropylene, which is mildew-resistant. What’s nice is you can simply clean them off for easy maintenance. We offer many styles and colors that range from simple patterns to bright and bold colors! If you’re visiting our showroom, let your project manager know you’d be interested in seeing some Polypropylene options. You would be amazed by how many styles we offer, and we do have a handful of wool and polypropylene blends available as well.

Some of these polypropylene fibers are made to look exactly like wool, sisal, and other common rug fibers. More recent styles we have seen are fun rainbow colors, especially for summer. For example, polypropylene rugs are carefully designed for superior comfort and resilience, making them versatile rugs that can find a home in both the indoors and outdoors.

What do Polypropylene Carpets Feel Like?

Polypropylene rugs are designed to be soft and offer the right amount of comfort needed! Some styles have the same look and feel of natural fibers, and provide great functionality. At both of our showrooms, our customers can browse through to find the right polypropylene rug for their home or commercial space. We consider adding a rug pad underneath for more cushioning. For more information on our pad offerings, please visit our blog.

As you already know, rugs are designed to add comfort, beauty, and functionality to any designated space. Some spaces, however, require higher levels of comfort or functionality than others (like your kitchen or family room, for example), and the fibers used to create a rug determine how well it will serve its purpose.

Seen in the photos below is one of our favorite roll special style, Antigua in the color Dune. Are you thinking of adding this style to your home, you can shop right now.

Now, not all indoor-outdoor carpets feel the same. If you’re looking for something a little softer. We recommend a cut pile polypropylene style.

Are Polypropylene Rugs Durable?

Yes, polypropylene rugs are durable! Made to handle extreme weather, messes, and scratches, polypropylene rugs are extremely resilient and can easily bounce back from wear and tear. Polypropylene carpets are great for homes with high traffic areas. That includes kids and pets. We have installed many polypropylene carpet styles on stairs, as well as delivered many area rugs for various spaces of a home.

Why are polypropylene rugs great for inside or outside?

Polypropylene rugs are highly stain-resistant and will not grow mildew or fade when exposed to outdoor elements. This makes them excellent solutions for outdoor spaces and indoor areas with high-moisture or where frequent spills occur. If you’re looking to add a rug in your kid’s bedroom, in the basement, or outside on your patio, a polypropylene area rug is highly recommended!
