Trends in Carpeting – Home Fashion Flooring Trends 2020

How to Incorporate Fashion Design Trends in your Home

It is a new year, and most of us have already looked into ways to change our living interiors by making our homes more refreshing. But how do we stay on trend? No matter what type of space you live in; small apartment, colonial or modern home, the best place to start is with your floors. Adding or replacing your carpet, area rugs, and stair runners is a great place to start. Look
no further for ideas or inspiration. Without further ado, here is Pantone’s color of the year and  the carpet and rug trends we are predicting for 2020!

If you haven’t already heard, Pantone announced that its’ hue for the start of the new decade is “Classic Blue.” It is calming and confident, and could quite possibly be a color you’ll want to bring into your home. We have already installed stair runners and area rugs that incorporate the Classic Blue tones which proves it’s going to be popular trend for this new year. This doesn’t go for just carpet, everyone in the industry has been looking forward for this announcement. Top fashion designers and do-it-yourselfers alike are looking to introduce Classic Blue into their lives.

Other colors that will continue to be favored are the never ending shades of grey and beiges, and the new trending color, known to many as “greige”.

Beside color trends, keeping an eye out for pattern styles is also something to be mindful of. With regard to carpet, many of the same styles overlap throughout the
years, but some make a come back in a different form.

Here at The Carpet Workroom, one of 2019’s best selling and trending carpet styles was animal print. “Deerfield” by Prestige Mills has remained a favorite but has begun to fade because of other similar introductions from competing mills. Specifically, one that has caught much attention is Harcourt’s, “Impala”. This fawn/antelope print is fun and trendy combining high quality aesthetics with an affordable price. We installed this soft impala printed stair runner in a home in Wellesley this past fall, and since then, customers have been demanding it!

Even though animal print is fun, it’s not for everyone. If you like pattern but want to avoid anything too trendy, styles like herringbone, stripes, plaids and sisal like textures are gaining momentum.

To get an idea of what our customers are ordering, here are some of our best sellers of 2019!

This list was curated by our own team in collaboration with some of our most popular interior designers. Please note that the styles we have listed are just a small selection of the products we carry. Please visit our showrooms in Needham and Avon to see all the samples we have with the color ways of each style and manufacturer.

Starting off, our most popular style in 2019 was “Peter Island Stripe” in the color “Graphite” from Kaleen Rugs & Broadloom. The narrow herringbone design coupled with the bold vertical stripe is the reason it has become the top best seller on our list. Other characteristics that contributed to its popularity are the durability and soft, neutral color palette. This makes it a perfect style option of homes with children, pets, or high traffic.

Number two on our list is “Cliffside” by Prestige Mills in the color “Indigo”. This is THE perfect carpet to go along with Pantone’s Color of the year, Classic Blue. This wilton wool has become a fixture in many New England homes, especially anywhere on the Cape, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket. With the navy and stripes, what better carpet than this to feature in your summer beach house?

As we stray away from the blues, we know that neutral colors are always a demanding detail we hear in the showroom. It sounds a bit like this, “I’m looking for something neutral, with a pattern, and can hide dirt!” There aren’t many options that check all the boxes but one of our favorites is the classic herringbone by Momeni called “Heatherly”. This smooth woven carpet is made of worsted wool and is incredibly soft on the feet. It comes in 4 different colors; Chevron, Cashmere, Tweed, and Gabardine. Because of its durability it works great for wall to wall projects, area rugs, and stair runners. One reason why this has made it on our best sellers list is because of the neutral color options it comes in. Herringbone will always be a trend that makes it on any best seller list.

To learn more about why Heatherly is a great option, we collaborated with local interior designer, Jessica Klein of Oh I Design who will walk you through her process of selecting a stair runner with us and getting an understanding of the reasons why she picked the Heatherly style.
